12/29/10

OK, so I skipped work yesterday to go to Waco to meet up with my brother and his family. We had a nice lunch at some Mexican food place and hung out way too long. The wait staff was giving us the stink-eye by the end of the third hour. Oh well. After we visited for a bit, mom and I headed north on I-35. I called Gregg to ask how far up I-35E was the town of Italy. He said it wasn't far. See, in Italy there is this place what makes concrete dome buildings. Larry Shuttlebus mentioned them once and I accidentally stumbled onto them on line. I mentioned the web site to Larry and he told me all about the place. I asked mom if she minded me stopping in to have a look around. She didn't. To make a short story long, they are way cool! I'm seriously considering domes for the shop and house in Boyd now. I've been working all day trying to finger out how to arrange all my junk, along with John's, Pat's, and others, into a round structure. I'm not sure what will become of that. As for the home, I'm thinking a “Moon Base” sort of thing. A central 24’ dome would house the living room, kitchen, laundry, HVAC, and probably a half bath. Off of that dome, I'd have four “tunnels” running out to four 20’ domes with a bedroom, bath, and closet each. I'd claim one, of course, and have three more for guest rooms for when Pat and/or John come up for a “Guy’s Weekend” working on cars and stuff. Oh, one would probably be dedicated as mom’s room, probably. I think it would be awesome to have my own “Moon Base” house. It would also be reminiscent of the architecture in “Logan’s Run” with all the “organic” flowing curves and stuff. Oh man, I'm just about having a nerdgasm thinking about it. Well, I've got to pee so I think I'm going to call it a day. I may have more tomorrow. We'll see.

Sort of reminds me of the geodesic dome houses, popular back in the 80s. There is/was one in the field at the end of Mom's street...
