12/9/10
So I'm sitting here in the Grand Canyon room, so named because of the giant mural of said canyon dominating one wall, waiting for Ms. Lettie Haynes to arrive for a meeting which may have been canceled. Hmm, only one “L” in “canceled,” who knew? Anyhoo, here I sit, running down my battery waiting. I'll give them until 0815 h and then assume it was in fact canceled. That still doesn't look right. But I'll take Open Office Dot Org’s word for it. Oh, y'all might remember how I used to use the word “accouterment” from time to time. Of course I meant “accoutrement” but Tiny and Flaccid’s word processor had it misspelled in the dictionary. I got tired of fighting with it and took it at its word that they had it right. Well, nanny nanny boo boo on you Tiny and Flaccid! I was right all along. Oh sure, I could have changed it in my custom dictionary, but I never got around to it. Hell, now it is kind of a “bit” with me, I guess. Well, we’ll just have to wait and see, won't we? OK, so what shall we talk about today? I guess I could mention another thought we had about Nadine. John is having second thoughts about the Gram Light wheels for his Honcura Accegra, or what the hell ever he’s driving at this moment, so we’re back to using them on Nadine. The thinking now is that we’ll buy a set of those Polaris wheel studs and over sized nuts, a set of 4x114.3 to 4x114.3/2” thick spacers, and just bolt them the hell on there. Of course it won't happen this weekend because of stuff. But that’s the plan right now. I wonder how those wheels would look yellow. John, Photoshop? Or perhaps you already know. I guess we’ll discuss that soon as well. Well, we’re approaching 0815 h and still no Ms. Haynes. I'm beginning to think the meeting was actually canceled. Psh, I'll give them another fifteen minutes, just to be safe. Besides, there is some good “talent” walking past the room going out for coffee in the rail car. See, we have this old dining car sitting in one of the courtyards where Sodexho sells Starbuck’s coffee, breakfast burritos, cereal, drinks, oatmeal... that kind of thing for breakfast time and sandwiches, and stuff at lunch. The Grand Canyon room sits just inside the door to the NOC/OOB from that courtyard. Oh, and the GCR has glass doors so I'm watching as everyone passes by. OK, it is now 0820 h according to my watch and I am beginning to have to pee. I'm not sure just how much longer I am going to wait. OK, I've been staring at the screen for the last five minutes trying to think of more to say. I got nothin’. And it is now 0825 h. I'm going to assume the meeting is off and go to my office. Well, now I'm at my desk and I still got nothin’. I stopped in at Blood Bath & Beyond last night to look at ammo. While chatting with the counter guys, I asked if any of them knew of a range where I could shoot the Wolf 7.62x39 hollow points I already have. “Your own property,” was the general consensus. I guess I'll have to buy a few rounds of brass cased ammo and give Elk Castle one more chance. I didn't have enough cash on me to do it last night but today I do. Yeah, I tapped into Gregg's money. I can replace the $60.00 I swiped before the next gun show. Speaking of gun shows, I've been thinking some more about what I want from the next show. I think I might pass on the Saiga 12 at this time. Yes, they are way cool. Yes, I still want one. Yes, I will probably buy one sooner or later. But... well, I'm not sure where I was going with that. Hmm. Anyhoo, I also think I might reconsider the Mosin Nagant. I really don't need a long range gun. I'm not going to “reach out and touch someone” any time soon. Probably. So it would be just something cool to have. I'd be better off blowing that money on car stuff. On the other hand, for just about five bills I could have a pretty bitchin’ sniper setup, with synthetic stock, sling, scope, scope mount, muzzle brake, twenty stripper clips, and around 1,000 rounds of ammo. Hell, the Saiga 12 alone would be that much, and that’s before buying the stock, fore end, muzzle brake, piston puck, and hi-cap magazines I'd want. But I digress. No, my current thinking is to look for something else in either 7.62x39 or 9mm. What I'm thinking of in 9mm id either a Taurus PT92, like the original Pimp Gun, but in black this time or that Kel-Tec Sub 2000 folding carbine. The Taurus will set me back a little less than the $500.00 I'm allotting for the Mosin Nagant or Saiga 12 whereas the Kel Tec would be about half that. I think, now that I look at it that way, the Kel Tec is the clear winner in that argument. As for another 7.62x39 gun, there is a bull pup AK-47 I've been eye-ballin’ for several shows now. I guess I'm going to have to remember to look up some pictures of those two guns so Spiderman can make those little hypnolink things for y'all. Did we do that? I guess I'll know tomorrow when I read the rant. Anyhoo, as for price, I think the bull pup AK is actually a tad more than $500.00, but I don't remember exactly. If so, I probably ort to forget it. I won't, but I probably ort to. We'll see. I'm beginning to regret ‘splainin’ the “accoutrement” thing up above since I do seem to do a lot of “bit” spelling in here. Meh, what are you going to do? OK, so now that I've spelled it out, it looks like I might be looking for a Kel Tec Sub 2000 at the next show. Now, anyone who knows me, knows how I hate having the “must have” item du jour. I refuse to own an i-(gotta be like everyone else) phone, I won't drive a Stupid Useless Vehicle (SUV), and you couldn't GIVE me a Glock. Having said that, the Sub 2000 I'd buy would be the one which uses Glock magazines. Why? Because you can get Glock mags which hold up to thirty rounds of ammo! Sure, if they made an S2K which used Beretta Storm magazines, I'd be all over that, but they don't. OK, I might be talked into one which uses Beretta 92 mags because then I could get one of them in the future as well. Hmm, hang on a minute. OK, so there are 20 round mags available for the Beretta 92 as well. I still think I prefer the Taurus PT92 to the Beretta 92 though. What’s the difference? Well, the Taurus has the safety/decocker on the frame whereas the Beretta has it on the slide. That 1/4” makes all the difference in the world though. Oh, and the Taurus is slightly cheaper, I believe. So, having said all of that, I think we’ll just see what is available at the next gun show and leave it at that. I've got another week to change my mind again anyway. OK, I guess that’s about all I have for today. Toodles.
