3/15/2011

Well, the weekend didn't go as planned. John's “ten minute” meeting with Andy took all morning. Now, I'm not busting John's balls about that because I totally understand. No worries. The short version is, John called to tell me he would be later than expected at Mimi’s and that he’d call when he was on his way. I goofed off for a while and eventually hopped in Fifi. I went to the credit onion for some cash then drove around waiting for his call. After about half an hour I said, “Fuck it,” and went looking for them. I knew approximately where they were to meet and texted John for better directions. I showed up whereupon John and I were asked to go buy Andy some E85 Gasohol. We drove a billion miles to the nearest E85 station and filled a gas can for him. Back at the dyno place, we hung out for a few minutes then went to lunch at El Sombrero in Saginaw. It was pretty good. We parted ways for the day and I went home. Oh, I brought Pixie along to show John and see if he was still interested. He was, but not at my price point. I think I told him I was planning to take it with me to the gun show, but I may not. If not, sorry. Sunday morning Larry called to say he was just about ready to go to the gun show so I got up and got ready myself. I made a sign saying I was trying to sell Pixie and Slick Willie, but in terms that the great unwashed would understand. I took off and met Larry at the credit onion, as we always do. We headed to the show. Halfway down the first row, a guy paid $150.00 for Slick Willie. Two rows later I got $450.00 for Pixie. Flush with cash, I began shopping for my new gun. I wasn't sure what it would be, but I was pretty sure it was there. Then I saw it, a Beretta U22 Neos with the Carbine kit. I made a note of the location and price and we kept walking. I looked for the Ruger 10/22 with the full length stock but never saw it. I saw a few more items, like the bullpup AK-47 I've been eye-ballin’ for several shows now, but kept walking. As we rounded the last corner, we decided to go to lunch then come back for the follow up visits. I told Larry that it was a tossup between the bullpup AK and the Neos. When we got back from lunch, we passed the Neos first. It won the toss. I bought it and took it out to the truck. Back inside, I bought 1,050 rounds of .22 Long Rifle bullets to feed the new gun. Oh yeah, the Neos is a .22 by the way. If one of those “Neos” up above is a link, then I found pictures to send to Spiderman. Anyhoo, 1,050 .22LR bullets only cost fifty bucks! I may be going to the range a lot more often... like I did a few years ago when John first got me back into guns. Larry looked at, and bought, a Smith & Wesson something-or-other revolver in .45 ACP for himself and a Ruger LCR with Tritium night sights for his sister. By this time it was 1600 h and the show was closing. I should have gone to the range immediately but I didn't. I went home and edited the “Firepower Inventory” spreadsheet and played with the new gun. It is so friggin’ cool! I must have converted it from pistol to carbine fifty times already. I think I'm going to go to the range, perhaps this evening, and shoot the thing. I'll let y'all know how it performs once I do. Well, I guess that’s about it for today. Toodles.
