11/10/11

Well, John has said that he is for sure going to go to the shop on Saturday. We haven’t discussed which car we’re planning to work on though. Logic says… wait, logic has never had any relevance to plans at the shop. What am I trying to pull here? I'm not sure, but what I was going to say was we should probably try to make some more progress on Lil' Wiggly before moving on to John's B-210 to swap trannnies or engines or whatever we decide we’re going to do with it. Now Juan might be thinking that’s just me being selfish and wanting to work on my project instead of his. But let me say this before you pass judgment, “Shut up, it’s my shop.” Just kidding. No, what I was actually going to say was “If we’re doing an engine swap, it should wait. If we’re doing a tranny swap, it can cut.” Now, having said that, I have no intention of trying to talk John out of doing an engine swap in that car. Like I said the other day, I think an L-series in a B-210 would be totally bitchin’ and would like to see that happen. But it just doesn’t make sense to sideline yet another project to start in on that one. See what I mean? Of course even a tranny swap could turn into an ordeal which puts Lil' Wiggly on hold even longer than it should. Ok, here’s the statement that is going to look like I'm bitching about John's 1200 being disabled in the other bay, but really isn’t. I wish John's 1200 wasn’t disabled in the other bay. That would give us room to piddle with Lil' Wiggly and do the tranny/engine swap in his B-210. But short of committing the total resources of the shop to making that car roll, we’re stuck with it on stands. I know, someday we’re going to have to commit to making that car roll, why not this weekend? I don’t know. I guess now it is time to admit to being selfish… and lazy I guess. Yes, an IRS 1200 would be cool, even with the swing-arm design of the 510, but it just doesn’t seem worth the effort TO ME. Oh well, it isn’t my car any more. He can do whatever he wants with it. Anyhoo, since that car in that bay is a moot point right now, I'm going to ignore it and move on. So here’s what I'd like to see happen Saturday: I'd like to replace that fan and install the fuel pump on Lil' Wiggly. I think with that stuff done we might be able to try and start the thing. We won't have any gauges to keep tabs on anything, but if we’re just making it fire for a few seconds I doubt we can destroy anything. Of course, just “making it fire up right quick” before it was time was the bane of George. I don’t know. We’ll see. Well feh. I think I'm going to go do something else for a bit. I may be back later. Ok, I'm back but I really don’t think I have anything to add. Hang on, let me go back and re-read what I've already said to see if there’s anything I can add. Ok, I feel like I was dumping on John for having a car disabled in the second bay of the shop. I’m not. And I don’t want it thought that I'm being passive/aggressive about the car either. I'm not. Sure, it would be nice if it weren’t there. But it would also be nice if the “Paint Booth” was cleared of all that crap, the “Machine Shop” area was clean and useable, and the mill was hooked up. But all of those things are just the way things are at Dimlight Racing. I'm just as much to blame as anyone. Hell, Juan might argue that I am MORE to blame for the place being only marginally useable. Well Juan can fold his opinion until it is all sharp corners and shove it into an inconveniently located orifice. So, as far as John's Albatross… I mean 1200, in the second bay, it’s all good. No worries. We’ll get to it eventually… I hope. So, on that note, I think I'll call it a rant for the day.
