11/4/11

“Hey-are-ya? Hey-how-are-ya? Woo-woo-woo-woo!” Yes, that was my “racist” rendition of an American Indian chant, “song” thingy. Yesterday was the Native Am… no, I can’t use that term. I was born here; I am just as “Native” as any descendant of the aboriginal people of this land. Y’all came across the Bering Land Bridge at some point in the past so you are just as “invasive” a species as I am. Well, unless you want to believe Zecharia Sitchin’s theory of the Annunaki, or ancient astronauts, but I won't go into that just now. Anyhoo, yesterday was the American Indian Heritage Day event. I. Hate. That. Event. If it sounds like I'm being a tad bigoted… well, I'm going to have to admit that I am. I don’t like being a bigot but I am a big enough man to admit that I am about a few things. I do not trust Muslims. Any “religion” which preaches “You are GUARANTEED a place in heaven if you kill a non-believer,” is a threat to civilized people everywhere. “Native Americans,” and the whole Political-Correctness Kit Gloves with which we whiteys are supposed to treat them, piss me right the hell off. Actually, Political Correctness in general pisses me off, but that’s another rant altogether. “But that’s another rant.” Did you say it with me? Never mind. The point I'm trying to make is… well, I've forgotten what point I was trying to make. Perhaps I should start over. The reason y'all didn’t get a rant yesterday is that my laptop never even made it out of the car… sort of. I got to work and immediately had to help someone set up a meeting in the Bored Room. From there I went to another room where I had to pull the projector and clean all of its air filters. I had hoped that would solve its “shutting down” problem. Turns out it didn’t but I found that out today. By the time I was finished with that, I had to go across the street to help set up for the aforementioned Abo-Heritage Day. Ok, THAT one was a bit over the top bigoted/racist. Sorry. When I returned from that, I had to set up another projector and screen in some dude’s office. By now it is time to go BACK across the street to kick off the Heritage Day thing. When I got to the lobby to catch the shuttle, I see it full of the folks coming to “perform” at the event. I ask Renee if they are all planning to take the shuttle. “Not all at once,” she said. I decided to drive over. I did and got them going… sort of. I had to come back to this side of the street one more time for another meeting but promised I would come back to baby sit their damned thing if I could. I did. Turns out that when I went back to catch the shuttle, having driven Fiona back to her parking spot, I was met by one of the ladies in charge of the event and the last of the Color Guard dudes. They were waiting for HIM to get the event started. Yay. I wouldn’t miss one second of the thing. We rode the shuttle back and I sat through the excruciating mess that is always this event. Have I mentioned that I hate this event? Fortunately they broke about fifteen minutes early, because I totally forgot about a meeting which was about to start at the scheduled end-time of the heritage thing. I caught the shuttle and just made it to that next meeting. I came back across to the event and ate the free lunch provided. At least they had that going for them. American Indian food is not nearly as good as… ok, I was going to be bad again and say “real food,” but I won't. It was ok. By now it is 1430 h or so and I just didn’t feel like getting the laptop out of the car again. Ok, I did take it in with me at first but when I drove over that time, I dropped the ‘top in the car and just left it there. I wasted the afternoon either at my desk or picking up the projectors I had spread across campus. So, there you have it. That is why you didn’t get a rant yesterday. Suck on it.
