Son of a bitch! I totally forgot about
us going to look for a new shop. Ok,
after lunch Saturday, John and I decided to go to Kennedale to look at shop
spaces. We went to the old location Pat
and I used to rent. Of course there were
no signs for the landlord anywhere to be found so we had to get crafty. We talked to some dudes in a woodworking shop
and asked if they had the landlord’s number.
They had a recent rent bill with the number on it. John surreptitiously looked at their lease
rate while calling out the phone number to me.
Yeah, the 2,000 square foot unit they were in was less than what I'm
paying for my 1,200 foot shop. We’re
moving back to Kennedale if possible!
Anyhoo, while trying to call the landlord, we noticed that the unit right
next to the unit Pat and I shared did not have an electrical meter. We took that to mean that it was probably
empty. John got a hold of the landlord
and asked a few questions as well as answering a few. They said they didn’t have anything available
right then but would let us know if something came free. Oh, 1,000 square feet (like the one Pat and I
had) would be $350.00 a month whereas 2,000 square feet would be… uh,
John? Was it $450.00 or $500.00 a
month? Anyhoo, it would be quite a bit
cheaper than Beenbroke, fo shizzle. We
drove around the place a bit more and stopped to ask the guys across the street
about it. They claim that the folks in
the shop we thought was empty HAD moved out just a week or so prior. We’re thinking the landlord a) doesn’t know
this or 2) is waiting until that tenant’s lease is officially up to put the
place up as available. We’ll see. John left them his number, at least I hope he
did, he called from my phone. Hmm. Anyhoo, we discussed plans and options and I
think Kennedale might be doable. I
already have in mind what cars I'm going to want to keep and what cars need to
go away. John and I discussed this some
as well. Since the place will only be
able to accommodate four cars, if we go 1,000 feet, and John will have two in
it, I'm thinking I'll move George and the Chickenhawk to the new place and rent
just a few parking spots in Beenbroke (for the time being) for the Spit’,
Herman, and the trailer. Then again, I
might reconsider the flagstone driveway around to the back of the Burkett house
and park the trailer there. Hmm, yeah I
think that would be a good idea, then when a car is “finished” in Kennedale it
can either move to the other storage or to the drive/patio at the house. I didn’t mention the Crossbow to John the
other day when we were discussing what “cars” I want to keep. Toby honest, I forgot about it. Anyhoo, I think it will take up so little
space that it can be ignored until such time that we actually undertake the
build. …until such time AS we undertake
the build? Substitute whichever sentence
is grammatically correct. Anyhoo, I'm
thinking the frame, front suspension, and Goldwing are all skinny and could be
stacked into a corner without taking up a lot of space. Which brings us to the Miata. Gregg called Saturday to see if we were still
going to do the deal on Sunday. I… well,
I don’t think I back pedaled, but I guess I did. I told him that if he really didn’t have the
shit-hots to sell it, or if he didn’t NEED to sell it to eat next week, I
really could be persuaded to NOT buy it right now. After a little discussion we convinced each
other that it was not the best idea we’d ever had and decided to not go through
with it. The only reason it even came up
was for the fact that mom had offered to finance the MINI the week before. I really don’t need to go further into debt
with her… or anyone else for that matter, and he has a car he can autocross and
take to track day events to scratch his speed itch, so it just makes sense for
him to keep it. Besides, Fiona is so
much more badass! I actually had a dream
about needing to pass someone on the freeway and… hmm, now that I think about
it, was I in the Miata and incapable or in Fiona and oh so VERY capable? I think it might have been the latter but
then again, it happens so often in real life I might be projecting. The whole point is, disposable income is
overrated, Fiona is way too badass to let go.
And on that note, I guess I'll call it a rant and go see if the Whitlock
service dude and I can fix the audio issue in the TOB. Toodles.
