9/5/12
Monday, when I began to get
stir-crazy from being in the house for two days, I hopped in Fiona and went to
the shop. My plan was to look at Lil'
Wiggly's passenger seat situation… but I didn’t. No, I “installed” the giant pink Hello Kitty
on the hood of Lil' Wiggly instead.
Yeah, it IS all wrinkled and DOES have remnants of the backing material
stuck to the surface… and I forgot to measure for center. In short, it has got to go… eventually. I also took the Hello Kitty stencils and
spray painted a face on each pop-out side glass. Those turned out pretty well, I think. Oh, I also painted the chrome ring
surrounding the shift boot in Fiona since the reflection of the sun was really
getting on my tits. After all of that, I
went home and now we’re back at work. I
started to think about George and the turbo again yesterday. I don’t think I want to abandon that project
just yet after all. I know a
draw-through SU turbo setup is a bitch to start when cold, but I think I may
fall back on that original design. I
have an SU from something sitting there on the bench. In fact, it is the SU this system was
originally designed around so… I think I
might give it a try. Here’s what I think
we’re going to do Saturday. John and I
spoke and I think we’re going to wait a bit on adding a turbo muffler to Lil'
Wiggly. As I said to him, “The loud
zorst only bothered me when the thing was so damned slow. With it able to scoot now, I didn’t even
notice the noise.” He said he didn’t
really notice it the other day either and agreed that it was only annoying when
the car made all the sound and fury but didn’t go anywhere. So, we are still meeting at my house and are
planning to get Lil' Wiggly back to roadworthy.
I'll plan to drive it home… and to the JNC thing at Freebirds which has
rescheduled for this Sunday… even though four of us showed up last week. But I digress. After we have Lil' Wiggly ready to go, I will
suggest we shove George back in again. I
might suggest one of us go to the gas station for five gallons of petrol while
the other installs the SU carburetor… but I might not. We’ll see.
Oh, yesterday when I wrote about the big pink Hello Kitty on the hood,
and how it is wrinkled and dirty and off center and stuff, I went on e-Bay and
bought another. Hopefully it will arrive
in time to go with us to the shop Saturday.
If not… well, I guess I can live with a wrinkled, dirty, and off center
decal for a week. At the very least,
I'll change it next weekend when John is… uh, not at the shop with me… for
whatever reason. Hell, it might arrive
Saturday while we’re at the shop, in which case I'll change it in the driveway
before going to Freebirds Sunday evening.
We shall see. So… there’s all of
THAT going on. Hmm, what to say
now? Oh, speaking of George getting an
SU carburetor, John suggested a Zenith/Stromberg CD carburetor instead of an SU
for hood clearance. I pointed out that
George's original hood, leaning up against the wall redneck mother… wait, what? No, George's original hood, leaning up against
the wall next to John's car, already has an “Ullom Hole” to clear an SU. However, even with that information in hand,
I went to e-Bay and bid on an NOS Stromberg CD carburetor in England. If I win that auction, I'll give that
carburetor a try with the thinking that it is new and otter be nice and fresh
whereas the one I have on hand now is questionable at best. Oh, and hood clearance will cease to be an
issue… which it actually isn’t anyway.
Well, I'm getting bored with y'all.
I think I'm going to call it a rant for the day.
