Woo hoo! Payday! I can buy stuff! I have ordered the hydraulic parking brake
thingy, an offset bottom plate thingy for the air filter to allow it to clear
the HEI dizzy, and… um, what the hell else did I order? Oh right, not car related. I bought a different sight mount thingy for
the 7.62x39 Saiga. I think those were
all the items I've blown money on today.
As for yesterday, remember how I said I'd just sent a text to John
asking about the Mustang Dude? Well, he
replied back that he would ask the next time he stopped in there. Then, about five minutes later, he did
question me about the bell housing. What
he didn’t do, which sort of surprised me, was poo-poo the idea. But since I haven’t heard anything from him
today on the subject, I'm going to assume he didn’t have to stop by that
particular shop yet. No worries. I'm sure the oil pressure gauge fitting is
somewhere in the shop, and others have set up these throw out bearings without
skeletonized bell housings. We’ll
see. Speaking of “wheels,” last night on
“Wheeler Dealers” they had three shows about micro-cars. The first was a Bond Bug. I now have the hots for a Bond Bug. Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, they
only made a little over 2,000 of them… and most are in the UK. So it is unlikely that I will ever SEE much
less own one. The next episode was about
a BMW Isetta. They are pretty cool, and
I probably wouldn’t turn one down if offered to me at the right price, but I am
not shit-hot for one. The third episode
was… um, hang on, it’ll come to me. Oh
right! A Fiat Cinquecento! Now that I do have the shit-hots for! I know where there is a rusting shell sitting
by the side of the road. Remember back
when John and I went to Cross Plains to get his B-310? On the reconnaissance trip we saw it sitting
there in some small town. We even
stopped to look it over. Me rikee
rots! Of course I had to say to John that
I now regret letting the N600 go but it was pointed out that that particular
car needed a LOT of work. I then conceded
that even though I consider them “normal sized,” a Datsun 1200 probably isn’t
that much bigger than these others. I'm
having trouble convincing my brain of that right now though. Like I said, I think of a 1200 as “normal
sized.” Hells bells, I consider a B-210
to be a bit big, actually! A 510 is
downright luxurious in its relatively Brobdingnagian proportions. You’d think that driving the aircraft carrier
sized Fifi and main-line battle ship sized Fiona would cure me of these
feelings… but it doesn’t. Oh yeah, I
don’t even consider The Seven to be all that Lilliputian, actually. Nope, that is a normal sized car as
well. I guess I'll have to settle for
the Spit as my quirky “small” car… even though I don’t think it is all that
small either. John thinks the Crossbow
will be on the wee side but I seem to remember taking measurements and the
thing is going to be something like eleven feet long. Oh wait, that is still a foot shorter than a
1200 I believe. Hmm, maybe it will be
“small.” We’ll see. Ok, I've been running pretty hard all day
today. I think it is time for a
nap. I guess we’ll call this rant
complete.
