7/8/13

I think I'm going to backpedal on the whole “I want a lift in the new shop” idea.  John and I went over Saturday to look at the place and while there IS probably enough headroom for a lift, it would eat up too much floor space.  I think we’ve also decided that the welding table, welder, one work bench, and the tool box will go in the main bay while the rest of the fabrication equipment, and maybe a back-burner car or two, will go in the small bay.  Of course both bays are probably identical in size, but one has a double door whereas the other has a single.  This gives the impression that the one is smaller than the other… sort of thing.  I believe we also decided that the “office” will be used for “small shit” storage and possibly a wash basin.  We’re planning to cut in a pass-through between the “big” and “small” bays as well.  John is upset that I'm not in love with it the way he is and is worried that I'm going to resent it in six months.  Since I have no other options, I'm just going to have to grin and bear this place.  I'm sure once we’re in and working on shit, and I've resigned myself to the place, it will grow on me.  We’ll see.  I've just gone back and re-read what I have written in here so far and I'm now beginning to think that putting the welding shit in the “small” bay with the rest of the fabrication stuff is probably a better idea.  The reason I was thinking of putting it in the “big” bay was so we could roll the welder over to it if we needed to zook something on a car.  Now I'm thinking that we can still roll it in if we just put in a 220v outlet in the main bay.  Of course if there is enough room in the “small” bay, the car in question could be rolled to the welder just as easily, I suppose.  Yeah, I think the fridge, tool box and one table need to be in the “big” bay with all the fabrication shit in the “small” bay.  That makes more sense the more I think about it.  So, I guess there’s all that going on.  After John and I grokked the new place, we went to Lowe’s on Bryan Irving to look at garage door openers.  I'm not sure what it netted us, but it got us to the right neighborhood to eat lunch at Wasabi Sushi.  After that we parted company and I went home to get ready to go to Rob’s to hang out with Navajo.  After sitting around at Rob’s for a bit, we went to Hooters for chicken wings and beer then came back to Rob’s for a swim.  Eventually we watched a bunch of MMA Ultimate Fighter matches until a million o’clock when I finally went home.  Sunday I met Larry at the credit onion to go to the gun show.  I took $300.00 with me just in case I found something I “needed.”  I found a few single-shot 12 gauges which would make nice “Boom Sticks.”  The first was a really nice and clean “Sears & Roebuck” gun but it was a) too nice and 2) too expensive to cut up into a “Boom Stick.”  Next was a decent looking gun, which I wouldn’t have very many qualms about cutting down to size, but several guns away was a real beater of a gun.  This guy was screaming to become a 24” OAL, 18” barrel, “Boom Stick” like the one I already own.  Since it was only the second aisle, I decided I'd come back later if nothing else struck my fancy.  I saw a few other things which tempted me but I fought the urge to buy something just to buy something.  One thing that I looked at a couple times, and even threatened to go get a little more cash to purchase, was a carbine length Mosin Nagant in a synthetic stock, with a scope already mounted, for $325.00 which came with 100 rounds of 7.62x54 ammo!  As I was walking to the ATM I came to my senses and decided against it.  I did buy four more 30 round magazines for the 7.62x39 Saiga and four leather magazine pouches.  I now need eight more 30 round mags to fill them all up but I'll buy them a few at a time.  Once Larry had bought the gun he decided to buy, and I had my major purchases made, I went back to look at the two shotguns I would be willing to cut down into “Boom Sticks.”  Oh, did I mention that one of them was $140.00 and the other was $85.00?  No?  Well, they were.  I grokked the $85.00 gun for a bit and was told the owner would take $75.00 for it.  In the end I decided to be a good boy and didn’t buy either of them.  The seller said he was going to do exactly what I was planning before the September gun show.  When we were done with the show, we went to Benito’s for a very late lunch then parted company.  I went home and decided to forego the JNC car show.  I'd posted Friday asking what the plan was and when I hadn’t seen any replies by Sunday morning I decided I was going to give it a miss.  So, that’s about all I have as a report of the weekend.  I might tell y'all about Thursday and Friday tomorrow… if I feel like it.
