I didn’t get around to talking to y'all yesterday because I couldn’t be
bothered. Today I'm fighting through my
indifference to bring a little light entertainment to your dreary lives. So as I mentioned Friday, mom wanted to go TV
shopping when I got home from work. This
we did. We first went to dinner at Black
Eyed Pea and were disappointed with the service and food. From there we went to Best Buy with the plan
being we’d check prices and then go to Sam’s.
This we did not do. We wound up
buying a 60” Sharp and having it loaded in the back of Fifi. Saturday morning we waited to hear from my
brother. At 1000 h he called to say he
was leaving Garland and would be there in an hour. I decided to go to the credit onion and ask
about a questionable charge on my account.
After finishing at the CU, I looked at the clock and saw that I still
had half an hour before Bruce was due at the house. “Can I make it to Bloodbath & Beyond and
home in half an hour?” I asked myself.
The answer was, “No, probably not… but you can go to Elk Castle!” See, I wanted another Sight Mark optic to
replace the 3x scope I can't seem to make work on any of the guns anymore. I took off down White Settlement Road towards
Cherry Lane. On CL I decided I'd swing
through Academy first and see what they had in way of optics. They had the very optic I had intended to buy
at the gun show but had to settle for the cheaper model because the one I
wanted had been sold. I bought it. Back at the house I installed it on the 90/22
and put the other on the 7.62x39 Saiga.
It needed a riser. While messing
with all of that, my brother arrived. We
strained our asses lifting the heavy-assed old TV down from the stand and went
out for the new one which was still in the back of Fifi. It is half the weight of the other guy! We got it in and set up then mom made us
break for lunch. After that we decided
that an optical audio “cable” would allow me to hook the new TV into the
surround sound DVD player I have. We
went to Radio Shack and bought one. With
that installed and set up, we had a look at putting the old TV in the back of
Bruce’s pickup so he could haul it to his son’s house. We tried to lift it off the floor to no
avail. It was too heavy and
unwieldy. We rocked it onto a four-wheel
dolly thingy and rolled it out to the front porch. There we tried again to lift it and almost
died. It was then that he remembered
that the base comes off and weighs eighty pounds. I grabbed some Allen wrenches and removed the
base. The TV was actually movable
now. We put it in the back of his truck
and I went back for the base… yeah, eighty pounds my ass! It was one hundred if it was an ounce! I humped it down to the truck and set it
in. He went inside to see if mom was
awake to say “Goodbye” but she was napping.
He left so I settled in to catch up on my BVD recordings from earlier in
the week. Two observations: 1) shows
shot on video, TBS’s “Men at Work” I'm looking in your direction, don’t see as
funny in HD for some reason. I guess it
is the daytime soap/porn look of the video recording process is too distracting
for me. B) Jeremy Clarkson on “Top Gear”
looks really old in HD… like really REALLY old.
Sure, the other two are getting long in the tooth, but JC… yikes! Ok, I hate to sound like I agree with Simon
Cowell’s assessment of JC’s need for some cosmetic work… but I can see his
point, I suppose. Anyhoo, that was how
Saturday went down. Sunday mom and I went
to lunch at Papadeaux’s and then I went to Bloodbath & Beyond for the optic
riser I “needed” for the 7.62x39 Saiga.
I also bought five Picatinny rail sling mounts so I could put lanyards
on the covers for all these optics. Back
at the house I installed all of this new gear and now consider my long guns
“complete.” Oh, before lunch I decided
to watch “Logan’s Run” on DVD again. I
made it up to the point where they were outside the city walls about to
discover Washington DC and quit. Good
flick, but I'm beginning to see more and more plot holes the more times I watch
it. Meh, whaddayagonnado? Well, I'm about to get an alarm telling me to
take some speaker to a meeting… and there it is, so I guess I'm going to call
it a rant. Have a day.
