1/29/14

Well, the 90/22 stock was waiting for me when I got home.  Unfortunately, so was my brother.  Well, he wasn’t waiting for me, but was there.  I had to wait until we’d eaten dinner and he went home before I could start on the build.  I'll start by saying that the fake suppressor which came with the kit was a cheesy piece of black plastic which I will not be putting on my weapon.  I did a test fit of the muzzle brake and liked what I saw.  I began the installation by disassembling the 10/22 down to the trigger housing… which I also disassembled.  I gathered up the extended bolt and magazine release levers and installed them in the TH.  I took apart the stock and had a look at how everything was supposed to go together… it flummoxed me.  I rooted around until I found the instructions and got to work.  To make a short story long, it all went together pretty quickly and soon I was grokking my newest Bullpup.  I tested it for functionality, no ammo in the room, and found that it works really well.  It needs an optic but Larry has a “spare” he’s willing to give me if I order some stuff online for him some time.  He doesn’t have a computer… how I envy him that.  I mounted the magazine interconnector thingy to the one magazine I have on hand and shoved it into the gun.  It falls free when the mag release is operated and drops into the hand.  I like it.  I moved on to installing the muzzle brake.  I set it in place and tightened the set screw then loosened and removed it again.  Where the set screw marked the barrel, I filed a flat for better engagement.  I reinstalled the brake and hunkered down on the set screw until the Allen wrench slipped.  Then I dribbled on a bit of cyanoacrylate glue to lock the threads.  I put more cyanoacrylate in the gaps between the brake and barrel for good measure… I wish I hadn’t.  The 3.5” long muzzle brake on the 18.5” barrel makes it too long, æsthetically speaking.  I now think I want a 16.5” barrel with the long muzzle brake welded on.  I found one on e-Bay and put in a $20.00 bid.  If I don’t win, I'll shop for one at the next gun show.  We’ll see.  Well, I'm tired of talking to y'all for now.  I think I'm going to go do something else for a while.
