4/22/15

Well, it is looking more and more likely that I’m going to go to work for Patrick and John.  The railroad has said that it just isn’t in the budget this year to bring on another person so, if the numbers work out when I talk to an accountant next week, I think I’m going to be making an career change.  The more I thought about staying, the more things kept reminding me of just how unhappy I am and how much worse things are about to get.  See, right now if someone has an issue with the A/V equipment in a meeting room, they just pick up a phone and call, text, or e-mail me.  I then either talk them through the issue or go help them.  This has worked for the last fourteen years.  With a second person it would work even better.  What do the techtards and micro-managers think we should do instead?  They want the users to call the Helpless Desk and have them go through a menu of possible solutions.  WHEN, not if, that doesn’t work, the Helpless Desk will send a ticket to “me” at which time “I” will go help.  The issue I see right away is this: you have a one hour meeting, you can’t get your laptop to talk to the projector, you call the HD, they spend fifteen minutes going through all their checklist items to no avail, they throw up their proverbial hands and issue a ticket, another five to ten minutes pass while that process goes through, eventually “I” get the ticket and if not in the middle of something else, “I” go to help you… arriving just as the next group shows up to throw you out because your time is up in the room.  Yeah, can you say turd in a punch bowl?  That’s how popular this plan is going to be.  The other “issue” I have with this job is actually one I have been dodging for at least two, maybe three years now.  I think I mentioned when it first came up that the company who actually pays me wants all of their tech people to be CTS Certified… which is redundant over and over again because CTS stands for “Certified Technical Specialist” or some such bullshit.  CTS is issued by a group called Infocomm  or some such bullshit, as they are the ones who made it up and are the ones who charge a metric shit-ton of money for the privilege of taking their bullshit test.  I have been blowing it off ever since it was announced because I could literally not care one iota less about being certified by some bunch of dipshit  techno idiots.  Up yours… up wherever your species of retards normally shoves things!  So, to make a short story long, it looks like I am probably going to quit working with new technology, which I hate, to go to work with old cars, which I like… if the numbers work.  If not, well, I’ve been a hypocrite before, I’ll be one again I’m sure.
