6/9/10

The hook is set, now I just have to reel the fish in. As expected, the thought of having the Chickenhawk as his race car has been festering in Gregg’s mind for the last two days. I got a call from him last night to discuss it some more. The current plan is to meet at the shop and look at both cars “side by side” to see what’s what. I hate to sound so cavalier (or am I being Chevette? Was that pun too “Vega” for you?) about getting the Chickenhawk out of my stable, but I really do think it might, possibly, kind of, be for the best. Well, getting it in the hands of someone who will revive it, that is. Just making it “go away” is not what I have in mind. Barbecue Bob, that probably needs to just go away. As cool as that car is, I just don't see me ever making it run again. Of course, if the Chickenhawk were gone, we'd have the KA-24 slotted for it “laying around.” Hmm. John, thoughts? Yarp, ‘tis a slippery slope in the world of DLR. One project leaves, another is reborn. I'm dumb. Speaking of dumb, I mentioned buying the .45 Colt Lever-Action Carbine from the “Travel Agents” at the next gun show using the money Gregg is supposed to pay me for Lil' Wiggly, right? Well, if he buys the Chickenhawk instead, I'll probably buy a 3” Magnum Judge as well. Oh yeah, I really am THAT dumb. I mean, who says I can't have two Judges? The big question with the Magnum Judge is, “Do I go for another 3” barrel or go ‘Full Cartoon Gun’ and get the 6” barrel?” Juan would assume that the longer barrel would help spit the buckshot out at a greater speed but the extra time spent being spun up by rifling might send the pattern all over the place. It is a conundrum. Oh, I'll probably go “Full Cartoon” when the time comes, but I'd like to appear to have put some thought into the decision. In fact, the more I think about it, the more I like the thought of the magnum charge having twice the barrel length to burn and propel that shot. It isn't like the shot is packed in the shell all “Willie Nillie” after all, they are all lined up in a row. I am, of course, talking about that Golden Bear 000 buckshot ammo, not some wimpy-assed birdshot shell. Those are packed “Willie Nillie” and they spread like the mist from an atomizer. Granted, it is a mist of 2-4mm lead balls, but that’s still not three to five 85 grain, 9mm lead balls coming in a bunch now is it? That would be equivalent to three to five .380 ACP rounds shot at you at the same time. Yeeouch! That was not in response to the thought of being hit by that load. That was the realization that five 85 grain balls equals 425 grains! The heaviest bullet I can recall firing was something in the range of 255 grains. No wonder shotgun shells kick so much harder. It isn't the amount of “Boom” but the mass of the shot. Wow. Dang, now I want to go shoot my Judge. Oh, speaking of shotguns, my sister invited me to the banquet dinner for that skeet shooting event some weeks ago. I'm planning to go. I'll take the Auto 5 to show her the new stock and fore end. I'd still like to buy a replacement barrel for that gun and saw it off to 18 inches. I probably ought to do that rather than buy the “Travel Agents’” gun. I won't of course, but I probably ought to. Well, I'm getting bored with y'all. I think I'm going to go... well, I don't know what I'm going to do. I'll talk to y'all tomorrow.
