I can't remember if I told y'all that John talked me into the supper hot rod A-14 for Lil' Wiggly. Well, he did. Now I'm just trying to decide on what carburetors to use. I have a dual DCOE manifold, the one that came off the engine in fact, but I don't have carburetors for it. I have a singe 40 DCOE carburetor, but I'm not sure of its jetting or general condition... and I'd need one more anyway. Now, I do have a single DCOE manifold but it is for a round-port head and the super hot rod head is ever so oval port. In fact, there’s been $1,000.00 worth of machine work done on that head. I really need to use an oval-port manifold. I suppose, since the Chickenhawk’s cammed two liter ran like a scalded cat with a 38 DGAS carburetor, then this cammed 1,500cc donk ort to do fine with one as well. I do have an oval-port stock down-draft manifold I could clean up. I'm not sure if I have an adapter though... and I know I don't have a DGAS carburetor. So, I have a couple options. I can buy a DGAS kit, I can buy an oval-port single DCOE manifold (if I can find one, and then hope the 40 DCOE I have is good), or I can buy a pair of DCOE carburetors. Of course my first choice would be the dual DCOE setup because... well, duh. Second choice would be the single DCOE because I ran Gil with this cam and a single before. Hmm, I suppose I could use the adapters I had built for the dual DCOE manifold with the round-port single DCOE manifold, especially if I somehow made some transition thingies to smooth the flow from round to oval. Or I guess I could have another pair of adapters machined with oval-ports on one side and round-ports on the other. No, that would be dumb. All that would do is make a low-velocity... um, area... in the middle of the runner. Yeah, you’d have really high velocity airflow through the carburetor and main manifold, then all of a sudden, right before the head, the ports would open up and stall out the pressure and velocity. No, I don't like that idea at all. I need an oval-port manifold. Sure, a round-port manifold will probably make more torque, but seriously, how much torque is an A-14 ever going to make? I did bid on a pair of OER carburetors, which are basically a ripoff of the DCOE design, but lost out when they went over $200.00 for the pair. Yes, I know that is still a good price, but it was more than I was willing to bid at this time. What I need to did is just bit the bullet and tell John, “Han’lit Roy. Han’lit, han’lit!” and have him buy me a pair of 40 DCOE carburetors for it. He knows how to use them intergoogles to find the best prices. So, I guess what I'm saying is, “Han’lit Roy. Han’lit, han’lit!” By the way, if anyone out there “gets” that reference, please comment below. I would really like to know if anyone a) gets it and 2) actually reads this. If I don't have any responses with the correct answer, I'll tell y'all what it was tomorrow... if I remember to. OK, I just tried my hand at them intergoogles and had my usual luck finding anything. Of course it doesn't help that I get bored with clicking on worthless link after worthless link. Have I ever mentioned how much I hate computers and the dubya-coms... or whatever the hell them intergoogles are called today. So, yeah... John, find me a pair of 40 DCOE carburetors and I'll pay for them. Han’lit, han’lit!
