1/5/12

Ok, so we’re up to Sunday the first in the travelogue. Oh, I did nothing New Year’s Eve by the way. In fact, I was in bed by 2200 h I believe. I did wake up at 2359 h and saw the clock tick over to midnight, quite by accident I assure you. Anyhoo, Sunday was a gun show so I waited to hear from Larry. He called and I met him at the credit onion as is our usual MO. We went to the show and began walking the aisles. We made it halfway without finding the guy for whom we were looking. We decided against going out for lunch and went to sit down in the lobby instead. I'd had a hot dog a few rows earlier and Larry was getting a cold so wasn’t very hungry. We were tired enough to take a rest though. Back inside we walked the rest of the rows. Near the end we saw our guy but walked past so we wouldn’t have to lug our purchases the last few aisles. We went back and spoke to him. Oh, did I mention the other day that I'd sent this guy a text asking him to hold a “Commander” sized 1911 for me? Well, I did and he had. He also had Larry's Arsenal-converted Saiga AK-74 with the plum furniture. No, that isn’t a typo, an AK-74 IS different than an AK-47. An AK-47 is 7.62x39 caliber whereas an AK-74 is 5.45x39 caliber. Basically, 5.45x39 is the Russian answer to the NATO 5.56x45 or Remington .223 caliber. I fondled “my” 1911 while Larry looked over his gun. We both filled out paperwork and bought them. We took them to the truck and then went back in for ammo. I bought 150 rounds of .45 ACP from my re-loader guy and Larry bought 500 rounds of 5.45x39 from some other dealer. With heavy shit in hand, we called it a show. We went to linner, or is it lupper? What would the meal between lunch and the evening meal be called? Like “brunch” but between… oh never mind. We had a late lunch at Dairy Queen. He dropped me at my car and I went home. Monday morning I texted John to see if he was getting off work early and if so what was he going to do. He didn’t know so we decided against making plans. Mom and I spoke of lunch but then John called back. He was done and wondered what I was doing for lunch. I decided to blow mom off and have lunch with John. Mistake! She was pissed. Of course she didn’t SAY she was pissed, she just let me run off to lunch. When I got home I knew she was pissed. Anyhoo, I took her to run a few errands and bought Burger Street burgers so I think I'm off the hook. John is persona non grata though. Just kidding! Relax John, you aren’t in trouble. Anyhoo, now that I've got the timeline all screwed up I'll go ahead and say that John and I met downtown, had lunch at Razoo’s, and discussed a few things before I went home to find mom pissed off at me. Ok, so there’s all of that. Sometime in the afternoon Monday, I got a call from the dude at Eclectic Motorworks, the place I sold all of Nadine's superfluous-to-me parts. He was wondering if I still had the two Triumphs I'd offered to sell him last summer. I told him I did and he said he has a guy interested in Nadine. They are planning to come look at it this Saturday. I got a call from the actual guy this morning asking a lot of questions about it. I so wanted to say, “Dude! It is a $300.00 TR-3! What condition do you expect it to be?” Well, it turns out he’s actually a Spitfire guy so it may turn out he’ll be more interested in that car. Of course, of the two, I'd rather keep the Spit and let Nadine go, but if it goes the other way I won't be too upset. I have been pretty excited about the Spit all week now but thinking of all the stuff they would have to un-do and re-do to make Nadine viable, stuff I wouldn’t be doing were I to keep her, I'm beginning to re-think the situation. I'm going to send him some of the pictures I have of Nadine tonight and maybe it’ll scare him off. I don’t know. We’ll see I guess.
