5/24/12

Oh man, I caught some kind of 24 hour flu yesterday… or something.  I started out feeling like my shoes were too tight, which they are since they are brand new.  Then my knees began to ache and I was nauseated a few times.  Then I got a headache and the joint pain got slightly worse.  Then I felt a little better.  Then it all hit me again after lunch.  When I got home last night, I didn’t even open my laptop.  I crawled into bed and went to sleep.  About an hour later I awoke feeling like I was in a freezer.  I piled on a blanket and tried to quit shivering.  When mom called to say dinner was ready, I put on sweat pants and a long sleeve T-shirt to go downstairs.  I managed to eat and then sit in front of the TV until bed time.  I piled on one more blanket and went to bed.  After about fifteen minutes though, I had to ditch the second blanket.  Eventually I went to sleep and awoke this morning in a pool of sweat.  But I felt fine.  I still feel fine in fact.  Well, there is a hint of pressure in my head.  It is like the kernel of a nugget of the beginning of a headache.  More like, “I know you’re in there, headache.  Just don’t come to the surface!” sort of thing.  Oh, and my feet are still a bit snug in the new shoes but they are getting better.  I'm sitting here babysitting the installation guys who are putting in new projectors for the NOC.  They yanked a bunch of old cables out of the conduit before lunch and man, was it stuck in there!  The 180 pounder on the crew couldn’t get it to budge.  They had to get the 300+ guy to put some assitol behind it.  Not me!  I'm actually down to 280 even this morning, due to (tee hee, I said "doo doo!") the aforementioned flu yesterday.  Anyhoo, now we’re waiting for facilities to come up and run the hoist so they can take some old equipment and junk cables back for disposal.  The new projectors look really nice but the fans sound just like a train horn in the distance when I walk into my office now.  After a few minutes of listening to them though, they kind of change their drone to a more mellifluous warble.  Ok, I'll admit it.  I don’t really know if “mellifluous” is the right word there, but it is fun to say so I'm going with it.  And now I'm apparently out of stuff to talk about.  I've been sitting here staring at the screen for the last few minutes trying to think of more to say.  Ok, I've got something.  In the previous sentence I said, “… the last few minutes…” right?  What I started to say was, “… the last five minutes…” but then remembered just how annoying I found it when Charlotte Brontë would say things like, “he was silent for five minutes …” or “he looked at me for five minutes…” when it would be virtually IMPOSSIBLE to sit still and have someone stare at you for five minutes without someone freaking the fuck out.  Five minutes is a lot longer than people think it is.  Sort of thing.  Ok, I'm now officially bored with talking to y'all.  I'm going to call it a rant for the day.
