Oops, Tuesday not Monday. What? Last Friday I said I'd talk to y'all again on
Monday but Monday was a holiday so…Tuesday.
Anyhoo, we’re back at “work” now.
So, Saturday I hopped in The Seven at about 0700 h and headed to the
shop. The hydraulics totally crapped out
at the FM 2871 and 377 light.
Fortunately the car is light enough that shoving the shifter forward
against the synchro in first gear got it rolling enough for it to drop in. I floated the rest of the shifts and made it
to the shop. Of course it is a “Tim Off”
to turn from 377 to Winscott road, and I made the lights at Dirks road and
Winscott, Dirks road and Bryant Irvin, and Dirks road and Harris Parkway. I did have to run the light at Dirks and Old
Granbury, but it was another “Tim Off” at Old Granbury and Sycamore School
road. The only place I had to stop after
the cutch was totally “tits up” was at the gate of the facility. I shoved the synchro again and got the car to
the shop. There I waited for John. I think I probably did stuff, but I don’t
really remember what. Once he arrived, I
got to work on Lil' Wiggly's carburetor linkage. After trimming, bending, and removal of some
offending stud thingies, I got the link on the carburetor. Meanwhile, John was working on the quick
release steering wheel for his 1200, Timmy!
In the process he managed to slice his finger with the drill press. When he was done with his project he came to
my assistance. We synched the
carburetors, more or less, and reset he timing.
Of course we couldn’t go for a test drive since I'd removed the seats
last week. Oh right, I remember what I
did while waiting for John. I began
painting the floor of Lil' Wiggly. I had
run out of paint though so we were at an impasse. It was decided to go to Wal-Mart for spray
paint and adhesive bandages. We locked
up the shop and left The Seven outside while we went. We grabbed five cans of flat black spray
paint and then walked to the opposite end of the store for the bandages. John vetoed the “Hello Kitty” bandages for
some plain “flexible” multipack thingies.
We then headed for the registers.
Now, I won't say for sure that the roof opened up, a heavenly light
shown down, and a choir of angels began to sing, but the Indian Goddess working
the register was surely deserving of such imagery. I said to John, “We’ll wait for this
one.” When he saw Shiva herself working
the register, he understood why I wanted to wait. We got to the front of the line and I showed
my ID to prove I was over 18 in order to buy the spray paint. I paid and we left. Back at the shop, John finished painting the
floor of Lil' Wiggly while I stood there looking pretty. Eventually we decided that we would NOT put
the leather Saturn seats back in but would use the blue Boys of Pep seats I got
from Gregg. It was further decided that
I would buy some Hello Kitty seat covers and floor mats for the car… just
because, well… just because. Oh yeah, I
also put a Hello Kitty and Badtz Maru decal on both Lil' Wiggly and The Seven
while waiting for John. Ok, so while
attempting to install the driver’s seat we needed to drill the seat rails for
bigger bolts. John grabbed the drill and
went at it. Of course the bit grabbed
and ripped the drill motor out of his hand.
Not to be deterred, he tried again.
This time the chuck key slung around and hit him square on the
forehead. Yeah, scalp wounds bleed like
a motherfucker! We were pretty much done
for the day at that point. He cleaned
himself up and put on a bandage. Damn, I
really wish we’d gotten the Hello Kitty bandages! Oh well.
We went for sushi. John was
self-conscious about the bandage on his head but it really wasn’t that bad. After we ate just almost too many rolls, he
took me home. I'm sure mom and I did
something for dinner but I've slept since then.
Well, I'm actually helping out the installation guys so I don’t need to
be in here wasting time. I'm going to
save Sunday’s tale for tomorrow and go help them.
