I’m quite sore today. Friday after work I stopped in at the credit
onion and pulled out enough money to have $1,000.00 in my pocket at the swap
meet. Saturday morning I picked up Larry
and we headed to the speedway. We got
there early enough to grab a second-row parking spot! We began walking the rows. On the very first row was an $800.00 1941
Ford pickup cab. I grokked it pretty
good and kept it in mind as we walked away.
I looked from the next row as we passed and thought about it some more. I think I did it again as we passed on the
third row. There were some interesting
things, y’know other than that cab, but nothing I “needed.” On about the fourth row we found a trailer
with three truck cabs on it. The one at
the very back was another 1941 Ford. He
only wanted $700.00 for that one. I
thought about it long and hard (tee hee, I said "long and hard!") as
well. We continued to walk. It was quite pleasant out with cloud cover
and a nice cool temperature… but having not walked that much in a long time, we
were beginning to slow down at around 1200 h.
I suggested we grab some food and sit in the truck to eat it. I got a “Philly Cheese Steak” and Larry got a
hot dog. Now, there is nothing like a
good Philly Cheese Steak sandwich… and that WAS nothing like a good Philly
Cheese Steak sandwich! It wasn’t bad,
per se, but it had that “processed American cheese food product” goop, better
known as Velveeta or Cheeze Whiz, rather than the proper provolone of a proper
PCS. I ate the hell out of it and licked
the foil wrapper clean… but it wasn’t a Cheese Steak. That’s all I'm saying. Anyhoo, after we sat for a while, we forced
ourselves out of the truck and back to the walking. The sun was beginning to poke its head out so
as soon as we got to the gate, I decided I needed my sunglasses and Larry
wanted to ditch his jacket. We walked
back to Fifi. Finally we went back in
and walked the second half… sort of. We
did the north half of the east half… the north east quarter if you will, and
then the car corral with all the “Trailer Queens.” When we’d finished the CC, we sat down again
and rested. It was probably 1500 h or so
by now. We discussed the truck cab. I said, “Ok, let’s skip the last quarter of
the show and go back to the $700.00 cab.
I'll offer him $500.00 for it and we’ll see where it goes from
there.” We argued $400.00 versus $500.00
for a bit… Larry and I, that is. I'm not
sure what his reason for $400.00 was but I felt that it was a bit too low of a
bid. We also argued whether or not I
should do it at all. The argument, “We’d
have to load it on the truck then UNLOAD it at the shop…” trumped, “Yeah, but
it’s here!” and we walked straight back to Fifi. I took Larry home and headed to my
house. There I collapsed into my chair and
watched TV until bedtime. Oh, at some
point I texted John to see if it were even remotely possible for him to come
with me on Sunday to look at the cabs again.
He replied back that it depended on time. I looked up the closing time and all I could
find was that the vendors had to be out by 1700 h. I pretty much knew we weren’t going to make
it by then but I didn’t want to keep bugging John on his camping trip. At around 2200 h, after watching “The
Nerdist” on BBC America, I tried to go to bed.
Yeah, that wasn’t happening. I
got up and took a soak in a hot bath.
That made my legs and feet feel better… good enough that I could get to
sleep finally. Sunday morning I felt
much better. So good in fact, that I
considered hooking up the trailer and going back to the swap meet to grok the
truck cabs again. This I did not
do. Instead, I sat in front of the TV
all day with the cat. I napped and
slept, literally, all day. Every time I
got up to pee or feed either the cat or myself, my legs protested. But at least they weren’t throbbing painfully
like they had been Saturday night. Today
they still let me know I was an idiot Saturday, but they aren’t killing
me. I've also got a pretty wicked
sunburn on the back of my neck because I chose a baseball cap instead of my
usual big floppy hat. Oh well. What are you going to do? Me?
I'm going to call it a rant. Have
a day.

"Napped and slept"? Isn't that a bit redundant over and over again?
