11/14/13

Well, I've now made forty eight laps around the sun.  Woo hoo.  I've now got exactly two years to finish Lil' Wiggly and the Spit, four years to finish the Chickenhawk, and seven years to finish the Mini… along with whatever “Wheeler Dealer” cars roll through the shop.  I think those are reasonable goals.  Oh, by the way, I'm not taking vacation tomorrow through Thanksgiving after all.  They couldn’t get Jason’s schedule to fit for coverage.  Instead, I'm taking the week of Thanksgiving and the week after… plus New Year’s Eve, which is a railroad holiday but not one for Whitlock.  So, three weekends with John and a week and a half solo, I might be able to get Lil' Wiggly going for the December Classic Japanese Car Show on the 7th… but I'm not holding my breath.  Of course I'm not going to be allowed to go every day to the shop on my vacation.  Mom’s going to want me to do other shit with her, I'm sure.  We’ll see.  So, if you may remember, John and I were looking for tool carts at Home Despot last weekend.  Well, I noticed when I got home that there was a Northern Tool and Supply catalog on a pile of stuff in my room.  I had a flip through and found that they list two pages of tool carts.  I sent John a text just now informing him of this and asking if he’d had a chance to check with Pearl Harbor… I mean Harbor Fright… Freight!  He said he’d swing by today.  I looked at their online catalog and found a couple I like.  One is steel, possibly flimsy knowing Pearl Harbor, while the other is plastic… with a cup holder!  We wouldn’t get our drinks mixed up any more.  Unfortunately the plastic one I like is $60.00 more than the steel one.  I imagine we’ll wind up with steel carts.  We’ve been communicating about them.  He agrees that the plastic ones are preferable, but that the steel is enough cheaper to offset the cup holder.  I counter suggested we each buy our own but haven’t heard back.  I could probably get them for my birthday if I took mom to Harbor Fright when we go to dinner tonight.  I won't, but I probably could.  We’ll see.  Well, I'm bored with this.  I think I'm going to go do something else.  I might come back later but don’t hold your breath.  Ok, John is on board with each of us buying his own tool cart.  I may or may not drag mom to Harbor Fright when we go to dinner tonight.  We’ll see.  So, what else is there to say?  Well, John made a counter suggestion to my idea of how to shore up the sagging motor mounts in Lil' Wiggly.  He suggested zooking on a section of that 0.75” square tubing to act as a truss of sorts.  Upon consideration, I think that should work fine.  I think that is one of the projects I want to tackle Saturday… along with setting up our individual tool carts of course.  I'm thinking of going out and buying another set of hand tools to leave in the cart at all times… but I might not.  We’ll see.  A duplicate set of the wrenches and shit we’d both be hording on our carts would make sense.  I wish we had another one of those rolling shelf units.  I'm thinking something like that would be cool for “storing” the various gubbins we remove from a car in the process of doing stuff.  Of course those would be the gubbins which would eventually be reinstalled.  Superfluous shit would go out onto the growing pile of scrap outside the front door of course.  But alas, we only have the one cart of which I speak.  So, what else is there?  Hmm, nope.  I got nothin’.  I guess I'll call it a rant then.  Have a day.
