I am, once more, camped out
in the… storage room across the hall from the War Room because I can't be
bother to walk all the way up the stairs to my desk for just one hour. I'm waiting to go to a dentist appointment at
0930 h and, like I said, can't be bothered to walk up the stairs. So, Saturday I loaded the tires into Fiona
and headed to the Disco Tire on Bryan Irving Road. At 0930 h there were a dozen people already waiting. I hopped back in the car and headed to the
Disco Tire on Forrest Hill road by the new shop. There I was the first in line. Of course it still took half an hour for them
to get to my car. I watched as they changed
the tires and then they sent me on my way.
I decided that since I was so close to the shop I would go see what I
could accomplish. Actually, my plan was
to re-glue the center caps back into Fiona's wheels. The Super Glue we had at the shop had totally
gone off. I removed the zorst down pipe
and took it to the welder. Yeah, it was
a “Tim cannot weld” day. Before I fucked
anything up, I shut down and left. I
called mom to say I was on my way home and asked if she wanted me to bring
anything for lunch. She said we could go
out together. I got to the house and we
took off in her car to McAlister’s, a deli on Camp Bowie. From there we went to Batteries+ to replace
her watch battery then back to the house.
There I began surfing the intergooglewebcoms. Friday I had found a Bullpup stock kit for
the Mosin Nagant rifle. While searching
Saturday, I found a Bullpup stock for the Ruger 10/22 which made it look like
an H&K PS-90. The more I read about
it, the more I wanted it. I began
shopping for a Ruger 10/22. The online
prices seemed to be hovering in the $230-$350 range. I decided to see what could be had locally…
but it was too late in the day. Sunday I
met mom at the church and we went to Applebee’s for steak. Yes, I know, “Applebee’s for steak?!?!?!” Well, they actually do a pretty good hunk o’
dead cow there. Unfortunately, the one I
ordered was served on a sizzling skillet which turned my nice medium rare into
medium and then medium well before I finished it. It was still pretty tasty though. After mom dropped me at my car, I went to
Academy to see if they had any 10/22s.
They did not. From there I went
to Bloodbath & Beyond. They did have
some from $239-$315 or so. Since I don’t
have the funds until Friday, I was a good boy and left. I went to Cabela’s. They had a few for $250.00 but they also had
racks of $169.00 Mosin Nagants. Once
again, I don’t have the funds to buy so I left.
I went to Shooster’s Club to see if they might have a 10/22. They did not.
Then I went to Winchester Gallery.
They had a few $315.00 10/22s.
While I was looking around, a kid was selling his pistol to the gallery. He asked if they might be interested in his…
wait for it… keep waiting for it… Armalite AR-15. No, I'm kidding. He wanted to sell a 10/22! I whipped my attention to him and asked for a
description. It has the Archangel stock
and several 25 round magazines, along with a butt load of ammo. He didn’t know what to ask for the thing so I
told him about the ones at Cabela’s. The
lady shooed us out the door since we weren’t supposed to be doing individual
sales in the store. He went out, after I
gave him my phone number, and I looked around a bit more. In the parking lot he offered me the whole
shebang for $175.00! I said I could do
that but it would have to be after Friday when I get paid. I'll probably “George” him and give him a bit
more than that because he’s a starving college student, it is a lot of stuff,
and I'm probably going to make a bit of that back selling the bits I don’t want
for mine. Well, my alarm just went off
telling me to go to the dentist. I'll be
back later. Ok, I'm back. I'm still in the… uh, store room, because I
don’t want to schlep all the way up the stairs when I'll just be coming back
down in an hour to pick up the projector I just delivered. So, where was I? Right, the dude’s 10/22 for sale. I'm sure his has the 16.5” barrel, as many
do, especially those destined for Archangel stocks. The Bullpup stock for the 10/22 (official
name: 90/22 since it looks like a PS-90) requires an 18” barrel to be legally
long enough. If his gun has the 16.5”
barrel, as I suspect it will, I'll need to allot another $100.00 for a
replacement. No big whoop. I finger I can make most of that up selling
the Archangel stock and 16.5” barrel.
Sure, I'll still be in the thing for over $400.00 but that is a hell of
a lot cheaper than an actual H&K PS-90!
Then again, I did drop two grand on that Tavor without batting an eye…
but that’s because a) it is really cool, and 2) I'm dumb. Anyhoo, the point is… well, I don’t know what
the point is. Feh, I think I'm going to
attempt a nap. I doubt I'll be back to
say anything else so… let’s call this a rant, shall we?
Here are links to the pictures I meant to send with the rant yesterday. Post them as a separate rant today or link them to yesterday's... whatever is easier. If you do link them to yesterday, please post one today 'splaining that the links were added... just in case someone else besides us reads this thing... sort of thing.
