Ok, I'm in a slightly better mood today.
I found a job posting I think I like the looks of and applied for
it. I “know” the person doing the
hiring, though that didn’t help with the last posting for which I applied, and
think I might go “bump into” him later today.
“Oh, hey! How’s it going? Great, great.
I hear you have a job posting up on the… blah blah blah” and we’ll
become best buddies and he’ll hire me on the spot. Yeah, I know it won't go down like that, but
it can't hurt to have some face-time with the potential new boss. In fact, I think I might go have a look at
some equipment in the East Office Building right quick, since I haven’t had a
chance to do any preventative maintenance on it in a while. Wink, wink.
Nudge, nudge. Know whut I
mean? Know whut I mean? A wink’s as good as a nudge to a blind bat,
eh? I'll be back later. Well, it wasn’t quite like I predicted but
very similar… in jest of course. I
walked up to the dude doing the hiring and ‘splained that I'd seen the posting. He said, “Cool, have a seat and let’s get
started!” We laughed and he sent me over
to a cube so one of the guys actually doing the job could show me the ropes. It is a bit daunting but I think I could get
into the swing of it. The biggest suck
is that it is 12-hour rotating shifts, with weekends and holidays needing
coverage. The pay would be phenomenal
though! And it is a railroad job. After “shadowing” the guy in his cube for a
bit, I went back to the hirer, said I was not scared off, and asked him to
please consider my resume. I'm trying to
be cautiously optimistic. We’ll
see. Now I am going to test myself to
see if I can type forty words per minute.
I think I can do it. I am not
100% sure of that fact though. We will
have to wait and see. If I could stop
myself from going back and editing as I type, I might have… Ok, that was 55 wpm if we count all of the
“perpendicular pronouns.” Without the
word “I,” it is 47 wpm. I think I'm in
with a shot! Damn, I want this job. Well, I'm scared shitless of the amount of
computer stuff I'd need to learn, but it is at least something somewhat
interesting and useful to the railroad business. All of the A/V crap I'd need to learn to stay
relevant in my current job, a) interests me not in the least and 2) is just
window dressing and useless showmanship once all is said and done. Yeah, I want on with the railroad in the
operations side of things and this is a good “foot in the door.” Well, we’ll see. As for other things, I'm supposed to meet a
couple different guys about the Mini in the morning. I have an 0815, an 0900-1000, and a 1030-1100
scheduled. Hopefully one of them will
bring a trailer and a load of cash. It
is a bit inconvenient that this is an “off week” for John because I'd feel
better with him around to keep me from taking a low-ball offer… and to do all
the talking, sort of thing. Oh well,
that part is out of my hands. I'll have
the 9mm if things get ugly at least. And
by “at least” I also mean that I'll probably have the .380 Bersa Thunder and
the Taurus .38 Special revolver on my person as well… with a 7.62x39 or 12
gauge Saiga, or both, loaded, in Fiona's trunk.
Well, we’ll see how it goes down.
And on that note, I guess I'm done talking to y'all for the week. I'll have a report on Monday of how the Mini
sale went down. Toodles.
