Ok, judging by the asides when he posted yesterday’s rant, I apparently
misunderstood what John meant when talking about some multiple of $5.00 in
relation to the Spit’s restoration. So,
if I have it straight now, I can spend $1,000.00 to make The Seven right or
sell The Seven, at a significant loss, and spend $5,000.00 to make the Spit
nice. Without getting too snarky… no, I
think not. The whole point of selling
The Seven was to use all of the money from that sale to get totally out of
debt. Selling it, at a significant loss,
and then using half the money to make the Spit right does not make any
sense. I keep pointing out the
“significant loss” because anything under the high teens as it sits would be...
well, you know. Sure, sure, depreciation
and usage and enjoyment and all that other intangible crap buyers always try to
pile on to bring the value of something down applies, but the long and the
short of it is: I have close to, if not more than, $20,000.00 in the thing. No, I don’t think I'll be selling The Seven
at a significant loss right now. The
Spit will be, at best, a “John Flip” where we make it run, drive and enjoy it
for a while, then sell it. At worst it
will be a “Bail the fuck out” deal where we sell as is, where is with a “Post
Purchase Guarantee” of once it passes the fence post, you purchased it…
guaranteed. I'm leaning towards BTFO…
but we’ll still give a shot at trying to make it run, I imagine. In fact, I think that is one of the things
John wants to do this weekend. We’ll
need to hot wire it for testing porpoises but we’d buy a new ignition switch if
we move ahead with the revival. I'm
thinking that a battery, some wire, and two switches otter get us fired up…
assuming the starter and distributor are “good.” Well, we’ll see I guess. Feh, the only reason I came in to talk to
y'all just now was someone came waltzing through my office. I think I'll go back to my game of solitaire
now that they are gone. I may be back
later if the mood strikes me. It didn’t.
