So, where were we? As I recall, we were
talking about the “new” Subaru and what I had planned for it. At some point after the last post, the
Chinese knockoff DGV carb and adapter kit arrived so my plan was to attempt to
bang that on and see about buttoning up the car to make ready for a starting
attempt when John got back from The People’s Republic of Kalifornistan. Unfortunately the adapter kit does not fit
this engine. It does fit a Datsun
L-series… but we already have several of those adapters. Oh well, I’m going to keep it anyway. So I began the search of the shop for
something, anything, I could use to make an adapter. I was unsuccessful. I decided that I could make an adapter pretty
easily if I had a hunk of aluminum the right size. This I did not have. I closed up the shop and headed to Metal
Supermarkets to buy the piece I needed.
They were closed. I tried the
hardware store next to the shop, on a lark, and failed miserably there as
well. Back at the shop, I installed a
“side saddle” shotgun shell holder to the side, duh, of the bullpup 870. It seemed to work fine so I looked around to
see if there was anything needing to be shot… wait! No, I looked around to see if there was
anything else I could work on! There
wasn’t so I went home. Sunday I met
Larry at the credit onion and we went to the gun show. I didn’t bring anything to sell but had some
cash and a little more in the account in case something caught my eye. I was looking for a magazine-storage can I
had seen online, more magazines, or these little clip-on dust covers for
magazines for the Tavor or another leather magazine pouch and more magazines
for the 7.62x39 Saiga. All I found were
more magazines for the Tavor… and a summer sausage and smoked cheese. Oh, I bought a sling for the bullpup 870 as
well. The one thing… ok, one of the
things I saw which I really wanted but couldn’t afford, was a polymer framed,
piston operated, AR pistol. Unlike the
usual AR pistols which have the long buffer tube like a regular AR, this one
stops right at the rear of the action.
It looked so much better than the usual AR pistols… and light! Holy crap this thing was light! Hang on, I’ll see if I can find a picture, if
I can remember what it was called. Ok,
try this: http://www.extarguns.com/
apparently it is called the Extar EXP and… well, read the damned website for
yourself! So. Much.
Want. John may have a buyer for
the V8 and stuff in Lil' Wiggly so it might be a possibility! Oh yeah, John called the other day to ask if
I might be interested in selling the V8 stuff from Lil' Wiggly. I said I could be convinced… or something to
that effect. With the inclusion of the
Subaru to the fleet, and subsequent back-burner-fication of Lil' Wiggly, I
don’t think it is such a bad idea. Then
there is the fact that for some time I have been questioning the idea as to
whether or not I was even going to like a V8 B-210. I think getting out from under it has
merit. Whether or not we move on with a different
engine in Lil' Wiggly is up in the air right now. Ideally we would find a 300ZX and use the
VG30 form it in there… but I’m not sure about that either. I am also flirting with an electric
conversion. I finger the car has: plenty
of room for lots of batteries, plenty of access to maintain lots of batteries,
the rear axle and front suspension to support the weight of lots of batteries,
and big assed brakes to rein in the momentum of lots of batteries. Shit, I’m talking myself into this. Well, it won’t happen until after the
Chickenhawk is back on the road for sure.
We have plenty of time to cipher and figger on it. I guess that is about all I have to say for
today… and perhaps the week. Yes, I think I’m going to call it quits. I’ll talk to y’all again next week some time.
