Oh man, my 7.62x39 Saiga looks so friggin’ cool now! Here’s what’s what. Around 1100 h yesterday I took off to run downtown and deposit that check from the British car guy. From there I went to Krystal’s for some sliders. I got a dozen to share with Larry and we ate them in the TOB. They were quite tasty even with “The Devil’s Doo-doo” (yellow American mustard) on them. I always forget to get them without “Triple D.” Anyhoo, since I knew I had money in my account, I looked on line for the collapsible stock and fore end for the Saiga. I fingered Mississippi Auto Arms would have the best price but was surprised when Blood Bath & Beyond beat them. Sure, it was only a few pennies, but there wouldn't be shipping if I went in and bought them at the catalog desk in the store. Of course I just realized I had to pay sales tax, but shipping would have been more. Yeah, I'm going to let that comfort me. OK, so all afternoon I was thinking I'd swing by BB&B on the way home and grab those parts. This I did. After getting the stock and fore end I shopped the regular store for a bit. I looked at their magazines and saw that they did, contrary to the catalog, have some Saiga mags. Unfortunately they did not have anything but high capacity stuff. I bought two thirty-rounders for the 7.62x39 but refrained from buying any .308 mags. I'll order one or two eight-round .308 magazines from Mississippi Auto Arms soon. Aw hell, I'm going to do it now. Do I need two more magazines for that gun? No, not really. But at least I resisted the urge to order four. See, the math geek in me always wants nice round numbers. If I had five eight-round magazines, I could load an even forty rounds, two boxes of ammo. But no, I resisted and now I'm going to have either empty slots in a storage case or free floating ammo lying around. I'm not sure I'll be able to sleep at night knowing that situation is going on in my gun cabinet. We'll see. Mom has a thing at church tonight so I might just take the .308 to the range and see how far off that scope is now that it has been swapped over to the new gun. Oh yeah, I was telling y'all about the 7.62x39! So, when I got home I installed the fore end and collapsible stock. It was beginning to look pretty tough. I popped in one of the new thirty round magazines and it really looked tough. I installed the tactical flashlight to the underside of the fore end and it reached up and slapped me. Yeah, the gun is so tough now that it tried to start some shit with me. I should have taken a picture of it but I didn't. I unloaded the three Russian-made 7.62x39 magazines and stuck them in the bottom drawer of the dresser along with the 922r non-compliant twenty-round .308 magazine. I loaded the two thirty-round mags and set them in my underwear drawer with the rest of the loaded mags. I really ort to get a fire-proof ammo storage device. Seems like John offered me something once but I think I got distracted and never gave him an answer. Anyhoo, after all that I went in and updated the spreadsheet I keep which tracks my ammo and gun inventory. I even added a little feature which pops up a red warning if I indicate that any of the 922r non-compliant magazines are loaded. Sure, the likelihood of an ATF agent looking too closely at any of my guns is very remote, but I'm not going to take that chance. Speaking of taking chances, there is a douche I know who says he’s just going to carry a copy of the second amendment with him when he carries his gun. “That’s all the license I need,” he has said. Good luck with that. Have fun in jail. I hope your “prison wife” doesn't pound your ass too hard. Enjoy that felony “weapons possession” conviction. Go ahead and give up all rights to ever be allowed to buy another gun legally. Hope you weren’t too attached to that job and stuff. Me, I'm going to play by the rules, for the most part, even though they do suck sometimes. Well, it is approaching 1600 h and I haven’t played nearly enough solitaire today. I guess I'll call it a rant.
