Yesterday we had the Asian and Pacific Rim Heritage Day event in the courtyard of the Marketing building. Yeah I know, “We can't have a ‘European Heritage Day’ because that would be ‘racist’,” I hear that every time I mention one of these events. We are the most discriminated against group out there now, good thing we’re still the ones with most of the power. Fuck you “minorities”! Anyhoo, we had this event so I had to set up the sound system. I started setting up immediately after my 0800 h meeting to hold someone’s hand and show them how to turn on a projector. Needless to say I hadn't been up to my office by that point. Setup took the usual half an hour to forty-five minutes but I hung out to wait for the volunteer who was going to be running the equipment to show up. Oh, we were also watching the sky pretty closely as it looked like rain. I wound up throwing plastic bags over the speakers and mixer and waiting. Right around 1100 h the volunteer showed up. I showed him what to do and started to head off for my 1130 h meeting. The sky got really dark at that point. I was a bit worried but fingered if the equipment got ruined, I'd get new stuff... maybe. Anyhoo, I took off and left it in Ranjeeshnaheemapoodewanalan Koothramanahanishtikar’s hands. That wasn't really his name but I don't remember what it actually was. I hit my 1130 h meeting at 1115 h and got them taken care of then went back to check on the event... from afar of course. I didn't want the volunteer to see me and ask questions. I found one of the ladies in charge and asked about lunch as a worker. She said to just tell the Sodexho folks working the register. Fortunately I knew them as well so it was no big deal. Then I asked if Larry could get a meal since he doesn't get very many “perks” in his job out here. She gave up her lunch box carton thingy saying she wasn't going to eat anyway and he might as well have it. I hopped on the shuttle and gave him the news that he was eating for free today. The plan was to hang out with him for the next half hour and then we’d go get in the food line. Well, I got a call back to the Viewing Gallery so I hopped off and said I'd meet him at the head of the line at 1200 h. I got back from the VG right around 1200 h and waited for a bit for Larry. I had a 1230 h meeting so I knew I had to get through the line but I kept an eye out for him. When I finally got my food, I saw him come up to the end of the very long serving line. I asked if the next person would allow him cuts, they did so I beckoned him forward. He protested but I made him take the cuts. We sat down and ate. The Chicken Tikka Masala was awesome! I wolfed mine down and headed off to my 1230 h meeting. I was met halfway by the guy I was going to see so I diverted and finally went to my office. I sat down right about 1230 h and got the call that they were done with the sound system at 1245 h. I got right back up and went to strike the gear. It took a little longer than the setup and I was done and back at my desk at 1400 h or so. I messed around with work stuff for a bit, took a quick nap, and then had to go pee. By now it was 1600 h so I just gave up on doing anything else for the rest of the day. So, I said all of that to say this, I was at my desk for a grand total of two hours and fifteen minutes and didn't even open my laptop yesterday, that is why y'all didn't get a rant.
