I meant to send some picture links to Spiderman when I sent the rant last
Friday but forgot. Hopefully, when the
tale of Sunday comes up in here, I will do that. But I don’t expect to get to Sunday today
because Saturday was kind of full. First
off, as mentioned Friday, I met John at his house to watch him work on the 610
before its new owner arrived. I built my
tool cart while he replaced the master cylinder then I watched as he replaced
the rear brake cylinders. When it was
discovered that he didn’t have any brake fluid, we broke for lunch and went
after some. After picking up the BF, we
went to a sushi buffet at Cooper and I-20 where we proceeded to eat too
much. Back at his house we bled the
brakes and declared the car “done.” We
hopped in Fifi and headed to the shop.
We unloaded the stuff we had in the truck and then went around back to
get George. We rolled the car to the
front of the shop and went back in to look at Lil' Wiggly's motor mounts. We fought the bits out and discovered they
weren’t as bent as I'd expected them to be.
I welded a strengthening truss/rib thingy in anyway. John painted them while I zooked up the gas
pedal someone in California wanted John to fix for him. I think as I was finishing up that, the dude
coming for George arrived. We dropped
John's “new” four-door 510 in the back and then loaded George on the
trailer. I showed the guy some of the
car’s eccentricities and then pulled the old “Look at the watch and say, ‘We
gotta get going,’” routine. They left,
after paying me for the car of course, and then John and I began shutting down
the shop. We totally forgot about the
engine hanging from the hoist over Lil' Wiggly.
We “dropped” it down so the front pulley was sitting on the radiator
support again and decided it would be fine.
I took John home and it was decided that I needn’t wait for the guys
coming to get the 610. I went home. Ok, so that didn’t take nearly as long as I
thought it might to tell. I wonder what
I left out. Hmm. Well, Sunday morning I get a text from Larry
saying he has a sore throat and wouldn’t be going to the gun show. I said I was but wasn’t going to try and talk
him into it. I did go. I left a little early so I went for a hoon
around Las Vegas Trail and Heron Road before stopping in at the credit onion’s
ATM for some more cash. At the gun show,
everyone asked where Larry was! I was
surprised at that. Anyhoo, remember
Friday how I said I might shop for a Kel-Tec Sub 2000 in 9mm? Well, I found a couple but none which used the
Glock magazines… until I got to The Doctor’s table. See, there is this doctor who is also a gun
dealer. Larry bought a Saiga from him at
his doctor’s office one time. We like
this guy. When I walked up to his table
I saw a Kel-Tec S2k on his rack. I
looked at the tag and saw that it DID use Glock mags… it was also $200.00
CHEAPER than the others I'd seen!
Needles to say, I bought it. I
took it and the sling I'd bought for the Hebrew Hammer down to the car and then
continued shopping. At the Russian’s
table I asked about the Meprolight MX3 optic magnifier. He showed me what he had and said it would
work. Being the gullible dumbass I am, I
bought it. I mentioned buying the S2k as
well and he asked which magazines it took.
When I told him it was the Glock model, he said, “You need fifty round
drum mag.” Or was it “You need fifty round drum mag?” Either way, he had a fifty round drum
magazine for it. I bought it when he
knocked $20.00 off his price. I shopped
the last few rows, ‘splainin’ to everyone why Larry wasn’t there, and then left
before I could do anything else stupid.
I stopped off at the Flying Fish and ate most of a batch of frog
legs. Yeah, it is something I do from
time to time to remind me why I don’t eat frog legs all the time. They aren’t “bad,” but I forget that they
aren’t all that good either. Anyhoo,
after that I went home. I beat mom
there! It was then that I realized I
flew through the gun show in about half the time it takes me to do it with
Larry. I installed the optic magnifier
on the Hebrew Hammer and played with that for a bit then installed the sling
I'd bought for it. I think it’ll work
once I play with it some… the sling that is.
The optic magnifier “works,” but it looks like it sits a tad low and I'm
not too happy with the way it locks onto the Picatinny rail. I'm not ready to scrap it yet. Oh, I forgot that I also bought a case for
the Hebrew Hammer… it didn’t fit. So,
with all of that gun’s entertainment value cashed in, I moved on to the
S2k. I unpacked it and grokked it. I popped in the fifty round magazine and
swung it around sighting stuff in the room.
I like it. I removed that mag and
put in the seventeen round mag and did more “Pew! Pew! Pew!” around the room. I really like this gun. I folded and unfolded it a few times and then
read how to remove the bolt. I pushed
out the pin and pulled the bolt free.
Yeah, that was a mistake. It was
a total pain in the ass to reinstall!
The hammer interferes with the bolt and has to be pushed down to clear. They don’t mention that in the book. I got it back together and found a spot for
it in the gun cabinet. It sits nicely on
top of the shorter back-wall “holder-offer” thingy which organizes the shorter
long guns and keeps them from touching each other and the back wall… sort of
thing. Don’t worry about it, it makes
sense to me. Well, I've just been called
away to do some actual work so I'd better call this one a rant. Suffices to say, the rest of the evening was
a waste and doesn’t really need to be narrated.
So there.
