I, apparently, have no concept of distance. I've been pacing off yardage to see how far twenty-five, fifty, and one hundred yard shots are. I think I can reliably shoot out to 100 yards, and according to my “research” a .45 Colt fired from a carbine length rifle ought to be lethally accurate that far. I'm beginning to think the lever-action gun from the Travel Agents will be my deer rifle. I'm not planning to go trophy hunting but I think it ought to suffice to put meat on the table once civilization falls on John's birthday, 2012. Of course it will also work to stop zombies, if that is the apocalypse we wind up with. I just hope the gun is a “side eject” model so I can use my scope. Oh, I tried to mount the scope on the Space Gun but the iron sight “towers” are too tall. I could get a stand-off thingy to raise the scope up above the iron sights, but then it would be awkward to use, I think. I may do it anyway, just to see. Well, I say that. Obviously if the scope will mount on the lever gun I'm going to put it on there. While “researching” effective range of the .45 Colt round, I also looked for ER of the 9mm. There just isn't enough weight in a 115 grain bullet to have much confidence out past 50 to 75 yards, according to them interwebs. So I think my “long range” gun is going to be the .45 Colt carbine, once I get one. Of course if the .45 Colt rifle is going to be my “long arm,” it might behoove me to reconsider that Taurus pump-action. It has side ejection so my scope would work. It has a really long barrel so velocity would be better. It holds fifteen rounds in the magazine so... well, I'd have fifteen shots! Oops, I just did a little looking and I was not as correct as I could have been. The magazine only holds fourteen rounds and it is not a side eject. So... never mind. Well, I can't think of anything else to talk to y'all about so I'm going to call it a rant. Have a day.
