4/4/14

I've been wracking my brain trying to finger out why a DCO supercharged VG-33 wouldn’t work.  I can't make it NOT work.  (By the way, John called me out on the 55mm DCOE so I had to go look it up.  Apparently I was not as correct as I could have been in that the 55mm version does away with the “E” in its designation for some reason known only to the Italians.)  The biggest argument against it in 'Lectrolux is the fact that it would require a total re-wiring of the vehicle.  Ok, “it” wouldn’t require that, I would be compelled to do that.  My excuse would be that the majority of the engine’s wiring harness would be superfluous with our setup so it might as well go away.  If the engine harness is gone, I'd have to rewire the lights.  If I'm rewiring the front lights, I might as well rewire the rear lights rather than cobble together the existing wiring into a workable solution.  Bada bing, bada boom, I've rewired the whole vehicle.  What makes the most sense, especially fiscally, is to see if the existing engine can be saved.  The next most sensible thing, assuming that engine is terminal, would be to replace like for like and go back with another VG-30i.  I suppose any VG-30 would become an “i” once I installed the throttle body injection on it, so that opens us up to an even larger pool of candidates.  Juan could even argue for “no replacement for displacement” and suggest we go for another VG-33 under the TBI manifold.  I'm not against it, per se, but I'd always worry that we weren’t feeding it enough fuel.  So, dropping in a three liter with the factory injection is the smart way to go.  No argument there.  So why do I feel like I'm trying to talk myself into it?  Oh crap, I just had possibly the worst idea I've ever had.  Follow me on this, if we did do a DCO fed supercharged VG-33ED, we’d need to plug the factory fuel injector holes.  Why not plug them with nitrous/fuel injectors to make even MORE power?  Now here is where we really go off the rails… then let’s put that engine in the Datsun which is already setup for stopping big power: Lil' Wiggly!  That would free up an V8 for 'Lectrolux!  I just sent that “suggestion” to John.  We’ll see what he has to say to that.  And now that I think on it some more, the more I think I want air conditioning in 'Lectrolux… and I don’t want to go through the faff of fingering it out with an engine swap.  Nor do I want to rewire another vehicle.  Nope, 'Lectrolux will be getting a Nissan VG motor… most likely with throttle body injection.  It doesn’t need to be fast, especially with The Seven perched up on the back.  If it will do freeway speeds, with a car on the back, for as long as I can stand to drive in a stretch, meaning as long as my tiny bladder will allow, it should be adequate for my needs.  The role I see for this vehicle is hauling The Seven to events far enough away that I don’t want to actually DRIVE The Seven to… or, y’know, however that sentence should be structured in English.  If it will also tote the Chickenhawk, all the better… not at the same time of course.  The main goal will be hauling The Seven and then we’ll see if it can also support the Chickenhawk… or John's 1200 I suppose.  What the bigger and/or blown motor would allow would be pulling a second car on a trailer.  Then John and I could attend JCCS, each with a car.  Of course Juan could argue that if we hauled John's 1200, we would each have a car there as I could show 'Lectrolux… all the more reason for the “big block” with a huffer!  Damn, now I'm talking myself back into the dumb idea.  Well, I'm sure John and I will discuss this ad nauseum tomorrow… and speaking of dumb ideas.  I told y'all about buying a Mosin Nagant the other day, didn’t I?  Well, if I did, I also told y'all about a company who make Bullpup stocks for them.  I have ordered one and it should be on its way to me as we… type/read.  I also ordered a Timney trigger for it and that arrived yesterday.  I can't install that because it requires the wood furniture to be clearance to fit the safety.  The Bullpup stock is already set up for the Timney trigger.  I can't wait.  And with all of that said, I guess I'm done for the day.  I'll let y'all know Monday if we have any revelations at the shop tomorrow.
