Well, we talked a little bit about 'Lectrolux Saturday. I'm not sure anything concrete was
decided. And having given it some more
thought since, I'm wondering if buying this truck is even a good idea. This morning, in a text, I asked John if it made
any sense and he replied, “Not really, no.”
I'm waiting to hear back on my follow up question, “I shouldn’t do it,
should I?” The problem is that I feel
like I'm hanging the current owner out by flaking on the deal. Yes, I know I had no contract, or contact for
that matter, with Jerry about the vehicle and thus should in no way feel
obligated to go through with it… but I do feel guilty. I don’t know.
We’ll see how it shakes out. So,
if we didn’t spend the whole day discussing 'Lectrolux, what did we
accomplish? Well, we finished the wiring
under the hood of his 1200. I used
quotes because we still have the headlights to install and plug in, but that’s
minor. I do need to go back and look at
how I wired his relays because there is a slight possibility they are
backwards. I'll check it out when I go
down to remove the front sight from my Mosin Nagant. I decided to go ahead and install the Timney
trigger in the action and put the wooden furniture into storage, but I can't
get one of the hand-guard rings off with the front sight in place. The Bullpup stock should be here today so I
might run to the shop this evening and install it. But I digress. We also had a look at the Chickenhawk
Saturday because John suggested we go back with its “original” paint scheme… a
revival, sort of thing. I don’t have a
problem with that idea… in fact; the more I think about it the more I like
it. We discussed the rear axle situation
and… well, I was going to say we decided to have a truck 4.11:1 ring and pinion
installed in the station wagon third member but I don’t think we did come to
that conclusion. It was suggested, and I
said I was not against it, but we did not make it a final decision. I think I would like to do that. We’ll need to source a truck axle for that to
go down though. I wonder if Pat, out
landlord, would want the taller gears from the wagon in his 620 low-rider. I suppose, if it isn’t too exorbitant, I
would be willing to pay to have the gears swapped. “Why not just put a truck third member into
the wagon axle?” you ask. Well, the
wagon’s third member is aluminum whereas the truck’s is cast iron. I want to keep the Chickenhawk as light as
possible. We also discussed four-speed
versus five-speed transmissions for the Chickenhawk. I think if we do the gear swap I'd want a
five-speed. If we don’t do the gears, I
could live with a four-speed… the car has never known anything else. I don’t know, we’ll burn that bridge when we
come to it, I suppose. Well, I'm running
out of stuff to say so I guess I'm going to call it a rant. Have a day.
