Nope, I had them wired correctly after all.
I cut out a little… ok, a lot early yesterday to go do a few things gun
and finance related. I went to the house
and discovered one of the packages I had been expecting sitting on the
porch. The other was not however. I went inside and grabbed the Mosin Nagant
and the remains of the Mini money then snuck back out the front door. Mom was asleep, y’see. Before heading to the car, I decided to check
the mailbox just in case they had tried to deliver the package containing the
Mosin Nagant Bullpup stock and left the little “We tried to deliver…”
note. Yep, the “We tried to deliver…”
note was in with the rest of the mail.
It was approaching 1700 h so I thought I could go to the post office and
pick up the stock or I could go to the credit onion to deposit the Mini
money. I opted for the post office. While headed that way, I noticed a PO truck
behind me. I pulled over and waived the
“We tried to deliver…” note and he stopped.
He said he didn’t deliver my street so I apologized for wasting his time
and we both moved on. At the PO I waited
in line until my turn came. “I don’t
think he’s back yet,” was the reply from the guy behind the counter. He pointed to the “Your package can be picked
up at…” line on the “We tried to deliver…” note and said, “See, it won't be
ready until 0930 h tomorrow.” I mumbled
something about how useless the post office was and left. When I got to the exit for Old Granbury Road
off I-20 I gave some thought to trying for the credit onion. It was 1647 h and I fingered there was no way
I'd make it down OGR to Hulen in time. I
kept rolling towards the shop. When I
took the Wichita street exit at 1455 h or so, I realized I probably could have
made it to the credit onion after all.
Oh well, I didn’t. At the shop I
loosened the bolt holding one of the relays to John's fender and turned it over
to see how I'd wired it. I had done it
right after all… I'm at least 99% sure of it.
Once I was sure I'd not screwed up John's car, I put a little heat to
the Mosin Nagant barrel and knocked the front sight out then removed the hand
guard ring I couldn’t remove before. I
cleaned up the barrel a little on the wire wheel and gave the bayonet a try. It fits now.
I'm not sure I'll ever affix the bayonet but it is nice to know I've got
a foot and a half of pig-sticker to put on there if I ever do need it. I waited around for the barrel and bayonet to
cool off enough to put back in the gun bag then locked up the shop to
leave. I walked to the back to confirm
that Pat was there so I wouldn’t have to lock the gate and then left. I made it back home by 1740 h, grabbed the
rest of the mail from the mailbox, put the “We tried to deliver…” note back in
with it, and took it in to mom. She was
none the wiser. I put the Mosin Nagant
back in the cabinet and opened the box from buymilsurp.com which contained a
four Polish Mosin Nagant stripper clip pouches, 24 stripper clips, and 120
rounds of surplus 7.62x54r ammo. I
loaded the first three stripper clips with ammo and tried to put them in the
first pouch… yeah, no go. While I could
get three loaded stripper clips into the pouch, it would only close on
two. I wound up putting only two clips
per pouch and the rest in a box until I can get some more pouches. Today I ordered two more pouches. Relax Charley; they were only $10.00
each. I'm not throwing all that much
money away. Once I was done with that, I
sent yesterday’s rant to Spiderman and wasted the rest of the evening watching
old episodes of “Top Gear” on BBC America.
And there you have it.
