As usual, I did not want to come back to work after that long weekend. Here’s how it went down. Thursday I went to the dentist to have a
cavity filled and my gums scraped. They
numbed me and got to work. Eventually he
was done with the filling and was about to shoo me out the door. “Um, doc?” I sheepishly asked. “I hesitate to ask this but, weren’t you
going to do something with my gums while I was numbed?” He consulted his notes and said that he had
totally forgotten that bit. He shot more
Novocain, or whatever they use these days, into me and then got to
digging. I remember thinking, “Wow, that
sounds really painful!” When he was done
with that he sent me on my way. I
decided that since I was taking the whole day off, I might as well find where
the new Bloodbath & Beyond store was.
I knew it was off of Eastchase Parkway on the east, duh, side of
town. I headed out I-30. I found it and had a look around. It is a nice store. I hope they do well. We’ll see.
From there I went home. My
brother was to be in town to load up my niece’s stuff from her dorm so mom
agreed we would meet him for lunch. We
went to Olive Garden thinking I would have soup. The ‘cain was wearing off but I didn’t feel
too sore so I agreed to that plan. We
had a nice lunch, except for him spouting some pinko, lefty, Dumbocrap bullshit
which I just ignored with an eye roll.
After lunch I settled in to waste the rest of the day. Friday… um, mom and I did stuff… I
guess. I don’t remember. Suffices to say, I was not sore at all and
could have come in to work… but I didn’t.
Well, I did go get the keys and phone from Jason around 1545 h, but that
was as close to work as I got. I chose to
drive the Seven because… well, it’s the Seven!
It began to do its cough and sputter thing, much to my annoyance. I told John about it and he said we should
look at the fuel pressure regulator and carbs on Saturday. I agreed and drove it to the shop Saturday
morning. We disassembled the float
chambers and had a look. The floats
still floated so we fingered that part was ok.
We took off the dashpots and had a look at that system and discovered
they were quite filthy inside… so much so that they were a tad on the sticky
side. We cleaned them up and reassembled
everything. With 40wt oil in the
dashpots and some improvised filters over the dashpot intake holes, I took it
around the block for a test. It seemed
much better. I declared it fixed and we
moved on to other projects. It was
decided that we’d leave the Seven at John’s house while we went to lunch and on
the way there it began sputtering again.
I was a bit out of sorts during lunch because of it. Back at his house, we adjusted the fuel
pressure down from 4 psi to 2 psi and I headed home. The car ran great. I’m tentatively ready to call it fixed, but
we’re probably going to try and lower the pressure even more. If it does it again, I’m afeared we might
have to go with a different fuel pump. I
would rather go with a low pressure electric but we might just do a mechanical
pump. I hate the thought of that though
so I am going to fight that tooth and nail.
Anyhoo, as I was driving home from John’s, traffic became stop and go on
I-20 for about a mile or so. The
temperature began to climb. It reached
250 just as the traffic opened up and I could get moving again. It came right back down to between 180 and
190 so I began to worry that the piece of plastic I intercepted HAD covered the
nose. No, turns out the electric fan has
crapped out. I will need to fix that as
well. Oh, we took some measurements and
now know approximately what we need as far as shock absorbers go. Now all I need to do is find some and finger
out how I’m going to pay for them.
Sunday I took mom to lunch at West Side Café, not the most swanky Mother’s
Day eatery but we like it… and the waitress called “Shorty” is so friggin’
yummy that I just want to lick every square inch of… oh, sorry. Family rant.
After lunch I went to the Burleson Gun Show to see what it was all
about. It was about ¼ the size of the
SMALL Fort Worth Gun Show, is what it was.
It was ok, I suppose. I’ll
probably go back for the next one in June.
We’ll see. From there I went to
Best Buy and bought mom a printer… for Mother’s Day, of course. Yesterday AT&T installed Uverse at the
house… the picture is “meh” and I cannot access the wireless so… yea! Ok, the picture is getting a “meh” rating
because BBC America is lo-def and therefore grainy and stretched. If I can find BBCA HD I might be
happier. As for not accessing the wireless,
they didn’t write down the password… and even if they had, there are at least
four different AT&T wireless signals showing up on my computer. Which one is ours? No idea.
So, now that y’all are back up to speed with me… go fuck yourselves, San
Diego!
