Ok, first a little more bitching about Uverse… then I’ll admit I’m actually
getting more on board with it. So the
other evening I’m cleaning the litter box when I notice a “cable” lying across
the yard. Yep, it was the fiber optic
cable feeding the house telephone, TV, and interwebs. “You have got to be fucking shitting me!” I
yelled to no one as I was standing there alone at the time. “This is fucking BULLSHIT!” I went back inside and said to mom,
“Thursday, have your cell phone charged and ready so you can call AT&T when
the lawn care folks run over and cut the cable.” “Oh,” she said as she shuffled through some
of the paperwork, “read this.” Sure
enough, right there on the information left by the installer it said something
to the effect, “The cable will be buried within the next eleven days. If it hasn’t… blah blah blah.” I shrugged and reiterated that they will run
over it and it will be cut on Thursday.
She rolled her eyes at me and insisted on calling the installer to see
about getting me access to the wireless.
He pointed out that the wireless “name” and “password” were written on
the side of the box. “What box,” I
started to say and realized he meant the… wireless sender-outer thingy…
box. When I found that information, and
entered it in my laptop, I was online.
So, there’s that complaint out of the way. As for BBC America in Lo-def, John pointed
out that I wasn’t going high enough on the dial. I found it up in the 1,000s… but there hasn’t
been anything on there that I’ve wanted to watch since then so it is still kind
of a moo point. Yes Tiny and Flaccid, I
know the word is “moot.” Quit trying to
correct me on my own rant… you rat bastard!
Ok, so now we fast forward to Thursday.
Mom calls me from her cell phone around 1545 h and I assume the cable’s
been cut. I try to not answer
smugly. She lights into the story of
helping one of the “Strays” from the church.
She’s giving her, the stray, a bunch of stuff from the house and has
volunteered to drive her, and the stuff, across town to a storage
facility. Now she, mom, is stuck at the
front ate of this facility waiting for the stray to come back out. She, mom, isn’t sure if she can find her way
back home if the stray doesn’t return… or something along those lines. I decide to cut out of work a little early to
see if I can find her. As I get in Fiona
I realize I’m out of gas. I fill up and
then notice it isn’t as early as I had thought.
It was almost 1700 h so I went on home.
I pulled into the driveway just as the mowers were finishing with the
side of the lawn where the fiber optic cable was lying. I got out and walked over to where I fully
expected to see a mangled mess of FO cable.
Instead I found a fresh-ish trench across the yard where AT&T had
apparently buried the cable. So, there
you have it. I guess I can’t bitch too
much about Uverse anymore as it does seem to be working out… for the time
being. We’ll see.
